Moving to PA with a Kansas CCW
I will be moving to PA and plan obtain a PA CCW....I have a permit from
my home state of Kansas.
I have had a background check and 8 hours of training......
How long after moving to PA will my Kansas permit be valid? I understand
that I need to be a PA resident for 60 days before applying for a CCW.
Thanks in advance for any information.

Re: Moving to PA with a Kansas CCW
You don't have to wait 60 days.
Unfortunately, there has been a recent court ruling that says PA residents need PA LTCF. So get it right away. Some Sheriffs issue on the spot, some take a few weeks, some take 45 days.
Matter of fact, you might decide to apply as a non-resident. It will still be good after you move here. You don't have to get a new one. Only issues are that some counties are weird about non-res licenses and I think you have to apply and/or pickup in person now. So you can ask more questions about counties and non-res process if you are considering it because I'm not up on it.Last edited by ungawa; January 28th, 2014 at 02:16 PM.

Re: Moving to PA with a Kansas CCW
To answer your second question about the validity of your Kansas license once you move to Pennsylvania, we had a Superior Court decision late last year that says:
we hold that a Pennsylvania resident
who does not have a valid Pennsylvania license issued under the
Pennsylvania Uniform Firearms Act may not carry a firearm in a vehicle or
concealed on or about his person in Pennsylvania under the authority of a
permit issued by another state that has reciprocity with Pennsylvania.
Accordingly, Appellant’s claim fails.7
Although this decision has many flaws from a legal standpoint it nonetheless is current case law. Once you establish Pennsylvania residency you must acquire a PA LTCF.IANAL

Re: Moving to PA with a Kansas CCW
Welcome! As you are moving here, I have family moving to Kansas, so we should be able to maintain the equilibrium.
What part of Pa are you heading to? As mentioned, some of our sheriffs can be a bit screwy, and with an approximate area, we may be able to let you know what you're in for...Proud to be a Longwall pig...

Northampton county takes ~3 weeks.
When are you moving and will you be in the area beforehand to apply while you are still a non-resident? I would suggest it.
And if so, don't tell them you are moving here in a few weeks or months. They would probably tell you to wait LOL.

One word of warning. Easton is very close to New Jersey. If your armed and wander into NJ you could get in serious trouble.

You would go to jail for a minimum of 5 years.
Yeah, you are going to have to read up on Jersey, NY, and MD.
Don't take a gun or even ammo into any of these states until you know what you are doing. And once you know what you are doing, you will probably never decide take a gun or ammo into any of these states.
