Question about buying used motorcycle.
Hi everyone. I have a question about buying a used bike from a private seller. How much in fees am I looking at to have the bike transferred to me? Title transfer, registration, etc, etc? I just need to know what I need to budget for in addition to the price of the bike.
Thanks!

Re: Question about buying used motorcycle.
Just like any car...
1. 6% sales tax
2. title transfer of about $25
3. registration/plate costs $**.** (cant remember, less than $40).
4. possible inspection renewal, and possible repairs $15 and higher
5. insurance costs. may need new policy if your present company doesn't allow motorcycle add-ons to your car insurance.
6. notary fee for title work $5RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515

Re: Question about buying used motorcycle.
i bought a used bike for $1300 end of last summer. about $110 at the tag place to make it mine and legit. 30 bucks for inspection. so far id say i put about 500 into it for various maintenance and repair stuff. ive learned a lot as ive done more. taking apart carbs sucks but none of the work is really difficult, just time consuming. what kind of bike you looking into?

Re: Question about buying used motorcycle.
The Ninja would probably be less expensive and easier in terms of maintenance and availability of parts. good luck whichever way you go. let me know if you need any help. im no expert but ive learned the basics.

Re: Question about buying used motorcycle.
one more thing. if you can, take someone that knows a lot about bikes with you if you go to look at one before you buy it. just like you would with a car or a used gun probably. make sure it looks good so you dont end up with a lemon.

Re: Question about buying used motorcycle.
You didn't list years, but if the ninja is from the 90's be careful. They are notorious for transmission problems, mainly won't stay in 2nd or 3rd gear. I had a guy practically give me one with that issue. I looked intoit and there really aren't any replacement parts unless you want to buy another tranny with possibly the same issues. I was also quoted 1900 to rebuild the tranny with new internals.

Re: Question about buying used motorcycle.
Just posting to get the email updates on this thread...
I'm finally starting to decide on which bike I'm going to go on. So far the Kawasaki KLR650 ('08) has got me more excited than anything else.==============

Re: Question about buying used motorcycle.
I guess you only consider buying a used motorcylce, so I recommend you to check out this list! ..contains some major things you have to consider. anyway, a first motorcycle should never be a new one, ...there are so many ways you could destroy or just scratch it. that won't be too bad when it's just a used one which already has some minor scratches or whatever. good luck!
