Re: AK Pistol with Brace
What's to prevent a guy from just not sliding this one ALL the way, and using this to shoulder it like an SBR? It just seems like this could easily be modified quickly and easily, or not even modified, but just used differently, into a fairly stable stock. I'm very surprised this got an OK from the ATF... as it seems you could easily use it "illegally".
It's as if it's only legal if you hold it a certain way, you change the way you're holding it, and it becomes illegal. Even then, what would they charge you with? It's a legal firearm, but you're just holding it illegally.
I don't even have an AK or AR pistol. I'm just casually interested here.

Re: AK Pistol with Brace
From what I have read, ATF only makes a decision based on the manufacturer's "intended use" of a product. They can do nothing if it is improperly used, such as shouldering. I am certain that Sig had this in mind in designing it.
I considered this for the AR pistol I am buying parts for right now, but think I am just going to put that money towards getting it SBR'd in the future. That is, of course, if I can get a sign off with the new sheriff coming to Montco. If not, I will then buy one of these.

How can you "hold it illegally"?

Hahahah, that's exactly my point. You can't hold it illegally. I may have not exactly used my words wisely. My point was, the brace is legal. If you were to shoulder this an use it as a stock.... how would that be "illegal"? Hence, holding it "illegally". You'd be using it incorrectly, making it illegal? I'm not sure.

Re: AK Pistol with Brace
I understand the ATF has approved it, and what's intended use was, I'm just curious as to what legal ramifications there would be if somebody used it as a stock. Simply don't slide it on all the way, adjusting for proper LOP, and shouldering it as a rifle. It would essentially be operated as an SBR, yet, how would it be illegal? And that's my point, you can't hold it illegally.
It makes me want to consider building an AR pistol. But I don't want to get myself into trouble.
