Tech Sight installation Issue
So I have the TSR-200 for my Ruger 10/22
I need to knock out the front sight, but I'm unable and scared of bending my barrel. I set up the gun on the edge of my counter, supported the barrel with a phonebook open to the proper height, and then began trying to tap the frontsight out from left to right as the pamphlet says. However, I cannot get it to budge, and as I said before I'm scared to hit it too hard and bend my barrel.
Please help, I'm dying to get these on.“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, — go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!” ~Samuel Adams

Re: Tech Sight installation Issue
What are you using for a punch? I used a 1/8" dia steel punch and a block of wood. I don't know what the factory sight is made of, but, it's SOFT. You have to whack it pretty good, with a small hammer. I think my 'smithing hammer is a 10 oz Ball pein hammer. I also have a small brass one, but that one wouldn't move the sight.
I haven't been able to get to the range to sight mine in yet......

I had to give it up for now until I get a better location to do it.
I was using WD40 to loosen up the dovetail, a hammer, and an improvised screwdriver punch. I was attempting to do it without a vice, but it appears I really need one.“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, — go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!” ~Samuel Adams

I just drifted my nephew's 10/22 rear sight, it was extremly tight. I used a brass bolt, as I don't have a brass punch. I had to wack it pretty good with a 12 oz. hammer, but it finally did move. I don't think you will bend his barrel[COLOR="PaleGreen"]but don't hold me to it. [COLOR="palegreen"] Let me know how your sights work out, as I am in the market.
I vote the second first

Forgive me, but how would I use the bag of shot or sandbag?
I'm new to rifle modifications if you can't tell.
Should I field strip the rifle down to the barreled action?
I will give this a go tomorrow if it's possible to do with simple tools as I'm sure I can find a brass bolt or buy one.“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, — go from us in peace.
