    Default Teachers need guns

Teachers need guns, says lawmaker whose son attended school with Colorado shooter

The 18-year-old student who stormed into his Colorado school last month with a shotgun and a bandolier of bullets across his chest, fatally shooting a classmate and setting fire to the library, provided fresh ammunition for one lawmaker's bill that would allow teachers to carry guns in schools.

The real question is do they want guns. I somehow doubt that anyone gets involved in education so they can carry in the classroom. On site security I'm okay, packing heat by teachers, not so much. I grew up in a tough place in a tough time, but firearms in school? Who would have thunk it?

    Don't trust a teacher with a gun?

Mitch, that's not what I said! I'd trust anyone who had the proper training and WANTED to carry. I just doubt that most educators would want to do that.

Are teachers being forced to arm themselves?
I'm sorry. I misunderstood your statement saying you weren't okay with it.

I view a teacher with a LTCF, and concealed firearm the same as anyone else in society with the same. Just because they are in a school shouldn't matter. I would say let them carry if they want. Nobody is suggesting that teachers, or school administrators be forced to carry.

Armed guards can be avoided, but the employee that is concealed carrying can not be avoided as the perps would not know they were armed.

Every time this comes up it's strictly stated as teachers. Why not school staff?

I'm okay with school staff carrying, but your local school board is not likely to allow anyone except certified peace officers to do so, mostly because of insurance and liability reasons.

True. Minds can be changed, policies can be drafted. Fielding a football team or having a car wash has risk and liability concerns, not to mention out of state or out of country trips.
