Bore snake cleaning
I have a bore snake in each caliber for quick range cleanings and love them. My question is should i clean my bore snakes after they get real dirty? If so how should i clean them?

Re: Bore snake cleaning
I've heard put in a sock and run through washer. Also, handwash with dish soap is another way.

Re: Bore snake cleaning
Hot soapy water and let it air dry. That's all you really need to do.

Re: Bore snake cleaning
Hand wash with some dish soap has been my method. Doesn't require anything too fancy.

Re: Bore snake cleaning
How efficacious do you think a bore snake is compared to a rod or cable and brush? I was in Gander Mountain and was going to pick up a bore snake for my new pistol and one of my experienced shooting friends really dumped on the idea. His impression was that they do a really substandard job.
CityofSteel you said that you use them for "quick range cleanings". Does that mean when you take them home you do additional cleaning with more conventional cleaning equipment?
Not criticizing please, just asking .
I don't want to hijack the thread but given a little positive bore snake PR here I'd like to go to my LGS and pick up a couple.

Re: Bore snake cleaning
I just started using them last year. I only have them for rifles right now. They do a decent job on taking fouling out of the barrel. I pretty much use them at the range to do a quick cleaning and keep fouling from affecting accuracy. I usually still dissassemble and clean per normal when I get home. I'm pretty meticulas about keeping my guns clean however and always clean after every range trip.
For a pistol I just don't see the point. I've shot several hundred rounds through my pistols in a range trip and never noticed a huge decrease in accuracy at normal distances. Just my opinion.

Good for the range and a quick clean however I still disassemble at home for a good cleaning.
