Default Thoughts on the Ruger SP101?

I am in the market for a "truck gun" and I was thinking about getting the Ruger SP101 with a 2.25 barrel. Sometimes the only gun I can carry is a NAA 22wmr and needless to say I feel a little under gunned. This would be something I can take in the car with me while I carry NAA and take out when I get home. The other gun I was thinking about was a Bersa Thunder 380 just because they are cheap and I hear good things about them but I would rather have a revolver. It needs to be something that isn't too big so I can carry if I wanted to.

What are your opinions on this revolver?

I just bought a Ruger SP101 (2.25 barrel) for the same reason.

The GP100 is too big, I have one also but not for the truck.
I couldn't find a Security Six at a decent price.

The SP101 is a sturdy, well made revolver. I'd get the .357 magnum model.

I have a SS Ruger spirless sp101 2.75" in 357. It's a tank, if your hands are big you might want to get bigger grips. Mine is the house gun so I kept the stock grips for my wife sake, the grips are small but managable for me.

simply rugged leather holster is a nice fit for mine, nice holster for 70 bucks

Ruger SP101 2.25 barrel .357 magnum. Great gun, accurate up close. A bit of a bear to shoot often with the stock grip. I put Hogue monogrip on mine, helped a lot. it's my daily carry piece.

Thanks. I'm going to get it tomorrow. I think I'll get some type of Galco paddle holster for it so I can slip it on quick if I want to carry it. What type of carry ammo do yinz use? Soberbyker looks like he is using Corbon in an HKS.

Picked up a NIB Ruger SP-101 in .32 H&R Magnum. It is a gun my wife and I can both use. Added Hogue grips. I have the 3' barrel and think it is optimal. The Ruger is my house and trail/hiking gun. I use a S&W semi for CC.

What do I think of it? LOVE IT; LOVE IT; LOVE IT. The Bersa is nice too and cheaper to buy but given a choice, especially for a truck gun, I'd go with the revolver.

It is in my opinion one of the sturdiest revolvers on the market today. Many people comment on its weight but I find that to be a plus. Mine is a spurless double action only model and the trigger pull will smooth out in time. I don't go nuts picking my carry ammo since you simply won't reach max velocity through that short of a barrel. I carry Federal hydra shocks or Black Talons
because that's what I happen to have. Good luck with it.

    Great gun choice.

In ammo, I like Gold Dot 125gr .357mag or Buffalo Bore 125gr.

In .38spl, Gold Dot 135gr short barrel though all I could find was the 125gr +p.

Hornady Critical Defense is not too bad either.

The HKS speedloaders work well too.
