Default Blair County Commissioners to Destroy Firearms

Radio news reported today that Blair County has opted to confiscate the home, motorcycle and firearms of a convicted drug felon. This is made possible by a PA statute. The County Commissioners intend to sell the house and cycle, and destroy the firearms. Does anyone know if the statute dictates the destruction of confiscated firearms? Or is the destruction the Commissioners choice?

    Thanks
    Steve Wagner

You have to destroy firearms if you want to be elected next term.

When they say "destroy" maybe they actually mean that "connected" guys will get their choice of weapons to keep and the junk will be destroyed!

It always irks me when they destroy. Especially if the felon had some collectable guns.

But I have seen busts where the weapons are held together with duct tape, too; so maybe it is a safety/liability issue. Although, they should have auctions that are 'as-is'.

    :-(

Yeah most likely what will happen...

Or they already have the nice guns and since their is no "Pa registry" they are clean and clear

I read that in the paper this morning and wondered about it myself.

If indeed the convicted felon has collectable firearms than it is a shame to destroy them. I can think of numerous rifles and pistols that could worth plenty. A friend of mine was given a rifle to restock and was told categorically to use only the original stock and components. Turns out the rifle was a gift from Roy Weatherby to JFK. I cannot even fathom the value of the gun and it had JFK in gold letters on the rifle. Destroying such a weapon should mean a jail sentence for whomever did it.

I saw them firing up the furnace in Philly one time on a news clip. I saw many junk guns- rusty pistols, Taurus, Tec 9s, ok fine.

But I sadly also saw some Russian and Chinese SKS rifles being melted down. A total shame they think that is going to stop crime.

I came across a LEO selling gun "Parts Kits" on gun broker. He had the whole gun for sale, minus the serialized receiver. Every part. I was looking for a 9mm witness barrel. He had the whole gun, minus the receiver (which he claimed was destroyed) for $250 and would not budge. He also had many, many many, other hangun parts kits.

    Destroyed my ass.

Does anyone know the timeframe for this destruction?

If some of the arms are stolen, wouldn't returning them be the first course of action?
