As part of my attempt to be less of a lazy lard-ass, I want to combine my shooting with hiking. I live in northern NJ, have a Ruger 10/22 and a .45 pistol I'd like to take with me.

So I was thinking, if I sling the 10/22 on my back, open carry the pistol, go on a hike to the range, unload a few hundred rounds, and hike back, that would be a fun form of exercise that I would really enjoy, and help get me in shape for hunting next season. Does anyone know of any ranges that fit the bill in Eastern PA? Say, within an hour drive from the Jersey border?

Also, could I get carry recommendations. I've applied for a Utah CCW permit, which apparently PA honors, and I assume I'll be granted that shortly. I know PA is an open carry state, and in theory I shouldn't need a permit to carry my rifle and handgun openly, except on public parks. Would the Utah CCW allow me to carry on public parks?
