Springfield Armory Releases New XDs 9mm 4.0
http://www.tacti-cool.com/industry-news/
I thought for sure they would pop out an XDs in .40sw at the shot show as the article suggested as well. Guess I need to decide on waiting or going with the .45 or 9mm in 3.3.

Re: New SA XDs 9mm 4.0, not a .40!!!!!
Hmmmm...if the frames are identical, maybe you can just purchase a non-serialized slide assembly and pop it on...

It seems the advantages to adding 0.7" to the barrel would be minimal. Velocity gain wouldn't be that much, but I guess you get that extra sight length.

With all the problems with the 3.3 recall, and I know firsthand, they are gonna have issues with sales. What they should do is rebrand it away from the XDs series. Everyone who had gone through the recall has a bad taste in their mouths and would probably steer clear of the new pistols.

Sight radius and velocity. I would expect a minimum 50fps increase for a 124gr load,(depending on load) which is nothing to sneeze at. For concealment the grip length is the hardest to hide.
I have been wanting to chop a G32 grip down to a G33 grip for while now so I get what Springfield was shooting for here.Last edited by dkf; January 3rd, 2014 at 03:06 PM.

I don't think they are going to have issues with sales. The 3.3's are still selling well when available as best as I can tell. I've seen mixed opinions regarding the recall from current owners and can't say everyone that went through the recall has a bad taste. But along your line of thinking, maybe they put out the 4.0 to get out from under the stigma of the 3.3 recall.

I have found the xds to be pretty accurate from 21-30 ft.
Don't see what adding an inch would accomplish given the purpose of the design.

Re: Springfield Armory Releases New XDs 9mm 4.0
I like the idea of this. I would have liked the XDs line to have a 4" barrel from the beginning.
I don't know why gun manufacturers can't figure out that for carry purposes, a small grip is more desirable than a short barrel. It's like when Springfield first came out with their 3.8 and it had the 19+1 capacity. It was a good while before they made the shorter grip.
10 rounds of 9mm +P ammo in a easily his pistol sounds like a winner to me. This same model, at least for me, in 45 ACP would be even better (in 7+1 capacity).
