LRGC competitions
based on the info here and youtube videos i think i would like to try out LRGC Action pistol and steel challenge matches. i've notice their registration fills quickly for their rifle matches is this the case for their pistol matches as well?
i'm going to try to make the next steel challenge match and i'd like to bring my python so i'd also need to purchase some speed loaders. what kind are you revolver guys using?Go head, skin it. Skin that smoke wagon and see what happens.

Re: LRGC competitions
Not a steel shooter, but if you are loading "on the clock" you want either Safariland Comp III's or Jet Loaders. If it just for expediency's sake then any loader will do and HKS's are readily available. I shoot IDPA and use Comp III's with my .38 Spl. 586.
Goog luck.

Re: LRGC competitions
Reloading a revolver (or any pistol) during Steel Challenge at LRGC is not about an aid to the timed portion. It is about not taking up too much time to shoot so the next person can shoot. I see boards with dowels with speed loaders on the pegs worn in front of the belly. Pistols, they want four magazines. Each course is six rounds* four times, three courses are run. If you are shy a mag, an RSO will help load one while you shoot.
You shoot close to a small table, so you can lay your speed loaders on the table if you don't have a personal carrier. I would have to say any kind of revolver holding 6 or more except a SAA type will be fine.
* You actually shoot five. The fifth shot is at the stop-time target. The sixth round is there in case you missed a target, giving you one chance for one make-up shot.
Safety or eye glasses are a must. Bits and pieces WILL come back and get you once in a while :-)Last edited by Bang; January 3rd, 2014 at 04:30 PM.

Re: LRGC competitions
Your only timed when you shoot. A standard quick loader would be fine.

Does anyone know the approximate distances the plates are set at?

Re: LRGC competitions
Action Pistol is a fun (but long day) when there a lot of shooters 30+.
3-4 stages of fire and all around good group.
I've been involved for a few years and made some good friends out of the group.
Everybody is welcoming and will be glad to show you the ropes, if you've never been "on the clock".
Safety is paramount, but it's a relaxed environment.
I've never actually shot steel, as I showed up once, 5 minutes late, and was berated by the "Gentleman" who runs this match...
I'd say steel is about 7-10 yds max. Don't think they're playing long ball.
Feel free to PM me with any questions.

I didn't make the match on the 18th but I'm definitely heading there for tomorrow morning's action pistol match.
