    Being certified and insured are both good. I'd also suggest students sign a waiver for any accidents that could happen during training so you don't lose your shirt.

    IMHO

    I would not consider taking any money or other payment for teaching someone any type of firearm training. I figure you would insurance, and if done at a firing range, gun club, rod & gun, etc you need the OK from the owners or membership of these organizations due to the legal liability.

    That being said I would have no problem heiping someone out free gratis.

    I've been a certified NRA instructor for so long that I can remember not being one. I don't recall anyone ever mentioning a law requiring certification. However, most states will accept my sign-off for training because I am certified.

    What the NRA certification course teaches you is how to teach.
