Froglube is it good? And never use Hoppes Elite.
I have been thinking of using froglube on my p226. My 226 is new with nitron finish. Is this safe on the finish? I had hoppes elite dull my finish so much in one light use now my slide looks light gray. When i oil the slide and it's wet the finish looks fine but when the oil wipes off it looks horrible again. Thus the frog lube i hear it stays on your gun much like wax and it may bring that luster back to the metal.
What should I get the frog lube paste or liquid? What stays on better?
Lastly I can not caution you enough. Hoppes Elite is horrible do not use it on your guns as it may take the finish off especially nitron finish. The package says cleans deep i to pours but crap i did t want it to strip my Finish to bare metal.
What happened was there was a little elite and oil on a rag from cleaning the barrel once i reassembled the gun i wiped it down with this rag and the finish wiped off.Last edited by CityOfSteel; December 30th, 2013 at 05:58 PM.

I use FL. A lot of good and bad opinions out there. I like it. I use the liquid and it works well and keeps things slick and clean. I use paste sometimes, but as a "grease" if you will on my AR.

Does the FrogLube stay on the metal like a film of wax?

I've never used Froglube, and I stopped using Hoppes products years ago, not that there is anything wrong with them. I've been using the MPro-7 line of gun cleaning, and lube products, and have been very satisfied.

I prefer snake oil b/c I've had too many weapons go down on me when needed.

I have used Frog Lube and it seems to work well, but it is kind of a pain to use as you have to warm up the gun by using a blow dryer or leaving it in the hot sun.

Re: Froglube is it good? And never use Hoppes Elite.
I've used frog lube on two firearms, my Springfield XD and my AR-15. It's performed perfectly on both. I wouldn't quite call it a "waxy" residue, but it almost is that. It's definitely not oily or greasy, so I guess it's closest to a "waxy" kind of residue. I agree that proper application is a pain in the butt. I stripped everything down with degreaser and then followed the hair dryer and brush on method in the application. After that, I haven't had any problems. I use the paste. Out here in West Texas, it's VERY dusty conditions. I always figured dirt being attracted to the oil was just something you had to deal with. I never was a fan of grease because well, it's greasy. Frog lube is a nice compromise and while it still catches a little dust, it's nothing like oil. If you're interested in it, sometimes places like LA Police Gear will sell the little sample size tubes for $.50. You can get a lot of those and try it out cheap instead of having to invest in an entire kit. If you like it, you can then get the full kit.

I switched to FL almost two years ago and love it. Check out this corrosion test video on FL, M-Pro and Rand:

You only have to heat the metal once for the initial application. I also use it on all my folders and fixed blade knives.

I was planning on trying it until I saw a post where a guy using Frog lube had some type of mold grow on his gun after going through the whole frog lube process. Searched some and found some more cases.
Decided to just stick with Slip2000 EWL and 20w50 high zinc synth motor oil for lube. Clean with Hoppes #9 and iso alcohol depending on the application.

All of my guns have been cleaned and lubed with Froglube. We will see how it holds up over time.
