    Default Mystery Rifle

I get a call from my mother today, says a friend of my father is giving him a WWII rifle which he will then give to me. They have no idea what it is yet, so I won't know until they get it and I go to their house to pick it up.

I'm very excited. I think everyone should guess what it will be. The winner will get nothing but the satisfaction of knowing they are somewhat clairvoyant.

    Speculate.

    A Lee Enfield 303...

The choice is yours, place your faith in the court system and 12 of your peers, or carried away by 6 friends.

I spent my first 26 years on Price Street in West Chester. In those days, the WWII vets were everywhere and in their golden years. One of the commonest scenes were cigarette smoke-filled kitchens hosting Pinochle or Poker games. Maybe a Luger stashed up on a shelf or a K98 in a corner but still in view.

I recall there were a few more ETO vets than Pacific. That would hint at something likely brought back from Europe.

    I'll guess a Japanese Arisaka.

You know, I'm really expecting the worst on this one. Too much has gone right for me the last few days for this to work out also.

I'm really hoping it's not something that was once really nice, but has been hacked up in some way. That would make me cry.

Hey! That was my guess! (Vince, I'm FOLLOWING you )

A friend "rescued" an Arisaka from his parent's house before his mother was able to "turn it in" for a Giant Eagle gift card at one of those damned gun "buy-backs!" (It's a Jap "capture" with the chrysanthemum intact!)

    Kypt,
Even if it has been "hacked up", you still have something more than most people with altered WWII rifles... a PERSONAL STORY that goes with it, directly from the owner. THAT is something that's hard to come by these days!

I'll hope for the best though!
