Metal guide rod for Beretta 92A1?
Anyone have any info or experience on getting a metal guide rod for a Beretta 92A1? Mine has the factory plastic rod with the spring that doesn't remove from it and I wanted to switch to a metal one and new spring if the existing one doesn't remove from the plastic rod. I was all ready to buy the wolff spring metal guide rod and their factory weight spring as well when I realized they specifically say "Please Note: Not for use in new Model 92A-1 and 96A-1 with captive recoil springs."
I assume the captive recoil spring is what I have as it does not come off of the guide rod. Even the one Beretta lists on their site for the 92 FS says it will not fit 92A1, 96A1, or 90-TWO.

Sometimes you cant go by what manufacturers say because they want you to pay for a "specialized" product that is virtually the same. ....like "Corvette 350cid" parts versus "GMC K1500 350cid parts", where as in reality many are the very same thing. You just pay a premium for the "Corvette" branded part.
Give me a few minutes and I'll give you the dimensions off my 92FS's recoil rod assembly for you to compare to your 92A1.
BTW, my 92FS doesn't have the captive assembly. It is a solid rod with recoil spring.Last edited by knight0334; December 23rd, 2013 at 06:13 PM.

What is wrong with the plastic guide rod ? Be very careful putting a steel guide rod in as remember the frame is anodized aluminum. If you don't get definitive answers here, ask here in the maintenance section.

I replace most plastic guiderods with ss ones. I have used Bedair Machine Works - great work and great customer service. They do have Beretta http://guiderod.com/

I always use brownells and am never disappointed. Upgraded all the polymer parts on my 92FS. It makes quite a difference.Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast.

If you are looking to upgrade, check out the EFK guide rods/springs.
I don't have one...yet...but they look really nice!

I have the stainless guide rod in my 92FS. Helps keep the nose down a bit and coming back to sight picture a bit quicker. Matters to me for playing gun games, where 10ths of a second add up, but in a practical sense it probably makes no difference.
