    Default Question regarding interstate transportation

    Alright, here's an interesting one.

I'm currently living in VA (just graduated college, still have my residency in West Chester). I'm coming up this weekend to help my family out, and am traveling by Amtrak. I'll be departing from Union Station in Washington, arriving in Wilmington .

My question is thus: I can legally purchase a handgun this weekend at Targetmaster. However, I do not know if I can legally transport it from PA -> Delaware (Wilmington Station), then on the train to Washington, and then back to VA. I've got my PALTCF, so I'm legal in VA for the moment until I transfer residency.

Does this fall under Interstate Commerce? Am I covered? Or should I just hold off and have it shipped?

I do know that AMTRAK has rules concerning transport of guns on trains and IIRC it is you can't. I don't know if you can declare them like you can if you were flying.

If you were moving your household from PA to VA you would be ok if it were packed with the rest of your stuff in a moving van or your car, but already having residency in VA I don't know. Have you changed your DL yet (PA to VA)? I assume you have not if you can legally buy (and take possession) in PA. If you have changed to a VA DL, you would have to have it shipped to your local gun shop in VA to finish the paperwork.

I've still got my PA drivers licence.

Checked Amtrack, and they say no firearms in checked or carry on baggage. Moronic, but I'm trying to stay legal.

So, it looks like UPS or Fedex are going to be getting my patronage if everything works out.

I think you'll have to use UPS, not sure if FedEx does actual firearms.
