Default Why is .22 lr Still So Expensive/Hard to Find?

Guns are stabilizing, 9mm is almost back where it was, what's the deal with .22?

I figured it would be easier and faster to manufacture then centerfire ammo. Am I wrong?

because all the "preppers" are still buying up all the new currency before SHTF.

Great, a douchey answer and two smart asses.

No one has anything intelligent to add?

Sorry if we haven't satisfied your curiosity. Trying searching for one of the other recent discussions on .22lr ammo and you mind find some answers that aren't so douchey.

My guess would be that the center fire calibers are more profitable than rimfire. If you have to add shifts and pay overtime to meet a spike in demand, you are going to fill the most profitable orders first.

I've also noticed that the smaller shops lack ammo stock and they are complaining they still can't get any. The bigger players seem to be well stocked and normalizing. That would also support the idea that the manufacturers and distributors are focusing on more profitable orders first as the larger orders are probably far more lucrative.

Most shooters, myself included, seem to buy it whenever it is available, especially at places like Walmart where it won't be marked up 10x. It creates the illusion that there has been 0 stock since last year because it is never on the shelf long enough to see it.

I've yet to find LR at my local Walmart, but the clerk who I see at the ammo/sporting goods section has told me they have been getting it sporadically. I grabbed two boxes of .22 short when it was available, just because it was there (and I am out of subsonic LR).
