Rough Rider 22lr
I am having a problem with my HRR. Actually a couple of problems.
1. A couple of the cylinders get tight after firing about 10 rounds or so. I'm assuming the metal is heating up and expanding causing the spent shells a little tough to extract. Any ideas for fixes?
2. When firing, I sometimes get hit with debris from the round. Any ideas on fixing this?
Or should I just live with the fact that this is a $150 gun and start saving my money for a Single 6?By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail. Benjamin Franklin

Re: Rough Rider 22lr
First problem - Is it an extraction issue or problems getting the cylinder to turn? Both could be build up of carbon.
Second problem - Debris? Sounds like unburned powder. Try different brands of ammo till you get what you want. It's .22 rimfire, changing ammo is about all you can do unless it is an actual firearm defect.

Extracting the spent shell. I don't think it's carbon build up. It happened on the first time out with it and it just never got any better. I gave it some "break in" time and some good cleaning, neither has made a difference.
Yeah right now the only 22lr I can get is CCI and Federal.Last edited by felly smarts; December 17th, 2013 at 10:11 PM.

Re: Rough Rider 22lr
1. Has the gun been dry fired? This can cause peening of the cylinder which will cause extraction issues. You can get a chamber ironing tool from midwayusa or brownells that will correct issue.
2. Try different ammo, some is better/worse than others

The gun has been dry fired. I only let the kids load 3 shots at a time when we first got it.

Re: Rough Rider 22lr
Debris could also be lead shavings from a cylinder out of time.

Re: Rough Rider 22lr
I get hit with debris from firing 22lr guns all the time...pretty common I would say.
It's from unburned powder I've been told.
Could be a timing issue though, who knows

Re: Rough Rider 22lr
My 2 cents, based on similar problems with my H&R 922:
Crap (lead shavings, or the coating on the bullet) gets on the cylinders.
Solution, keep a cheap .22 bore brush in your bag. Clean the cylinders every so often.
