Which .45ACP?
I'll be looking to purchase a .45ACP handgun soon and I'm looking for ideas that I may have overlooked. For awhile I was set on a 1911, but maybe expanding my search would be the smart thing to do.
I'm thinking that poly pistols like glocks, M&Ps, XDs etc. are out just because I have them in other calibers and I'm looking for something different.
I'm a lefty so I definitely need an ambi safety (if there is a safety present). I suppose I'm looking for just full size. Stainless is a plus too.
Any ideas? I'm thinking to consider the P227, EAA Witness and CZ97b

Re: Which .45ACP?
I'm guessing you overlooked the S&W 625. It's stainless, too.
You probably are looking for a semi, so may I suggest the FNX 45? It's DA/SA, so I'm not interested, but others that have them seem to like them. I like simple stuff that works, has cheap parts and mags, and is plenty durable, so I am happy with my boring G21.You can never have enough horsepower or ammunition.

Re: Which .45ACP?
If you can afford it, get a Sig 220 or 227.

Re: Which .45ACP?
There's a sweet looking S&W 4566 in the classifieds right now.
I wish I had the extra $$ around to pick it up.
It's stainless, ambi safety, and looks like it's priced to sell.

Well, if you don't want a 1911, or a poly. Then I say Sig it is, either a P220 or 227. That would be my first choice in a .45, followed closely by a 1911.

Tisas Turkish made 1911 ambi-safety stainless with black accents - I love mine ! But get a nice set of good looking grips, and ditch the smooth walnut.
For a limited time, come with a nice home defense shotgun for $90 bucks extra - not a bad deal.

Re: Which .45ACP?
+1 on the Sig 220.
It's a proven platform. What's the advantage to the 227 over the 220? It holds 2 more rounds? IMHO, BFD. As my boss said about my 220 when I bought it: "It's a 45. It holds 1 + 8 more than you need."
The mag release on the 220 can be reversed, but the other controls are fixed for right handed operation.
I have a feeling that any of the "classic" designs are going to leave you a bit short on left handed options. If you want a truly ambidextrous gun, you may be into a newer design, poly gun.Soap Box - Worn out : Ballot Box - Broken : Jury Box - Pending : Ammunition Box - Unknown

Re: Which .45ACP?
How about this. Ambi, double action, rail and reliable.
Still a single stack though.
I'm a little biased as I really like p-series pistols.
Buds has them instock for $450 new. You can usually find used ones in the $350 range.

Re: Which .45ACP?
There was a nice EAA Witness 45 in the classifieds not long ago for 350. I cant remember the sellers name though. I was interested but life ($$$$) got in the way.
Edit.....heres the one I was looking at. The owner travels alot so he might be close to you. There is also another one on the first page of the classifieds more recently listed. These things are solid. I have to fight the urge to buy it myself but I just dont need another gun. http://forum.pafoa.org/firearms-6/22...ness-45-a.htmlLast edited by bripro; December 17th, 2013 at 03:48 PM.
