Re: Snow city USA!
I kind of miss the lake effect snow.
The locals here are paralyzed by a mere dusting on the grass.
I do miss the lake effect, but not relocating it!

I lived in Miami for 14 years. They closed schools if the temps weren't going above 60. The schools are unheated, which makes fiscal sense in Miami.
Today, northern Wisconsin. We have about 12" accumulated so far this year. Oddly, we're in a place where we don't get as much snow as north or south of us. Chicago is 6-7 hours south and gets more snow.
Sunday night we are anticipating 17 below with a high of 2. It goes to 25 here and we appreciate the warming trend.
21 years in Philly, 14 in Miami, another 19 in Bucks County and now WI. By the time I die the average temperature will have been 72. Not bad overall. When the SHTF......be the fan.

My cousin, who now lives in PRNJ moved from Va Beach to Minneapolis and back to NJ> The only thing they lost in the move here was their box of winter boots. They got a bunch of snow along with low temps out there.

Re: Snow city USA!
I installed heat and A/C in several schools, Liberty City, Carol City and Overtown. They were existing buildings though I have no idea the age, but not very old. I was told, by teachers, that prior to the installation the schools were closed if the temps were not to go above 60. Other than that, I can't say more...it's all I know. I lived in Pembroke Pines and Adventura, had no kids and didn't pay much attention to school closings for weather.
When the SHTF......be the fan.

Re: Snow city USA!
You worked in school districts in the poorer parts of Miami. At the time, I would have been unaware of the circumstances you described. The twelve years I went thru school, I met one black kid, and knew no others, and I lived in SW Miami. Before I attended high school, S. Miami High was built, and all SW Miami High black students were transferred there. Talk about living in a vacuum.
