    Default Bolt Carrier Group question

I am looking at which bolt carrier group to purchase and was wondering if there is any difference between the different manufacturers, such as DPMS, Bushmaster, etc. I have heard of LMT, and understand those are kind of pricey. I don't really think I need to spend over 150 bucks to get a decent bcg. What say you?

I say ordering one from midwayusa or del-ton would be fine, based on my personal experience with bushmaster and model1sales I wouldn't order from them.

My carrier is an unknown brand, bolt is a used colt. I expect little to no problems. You might even have luck on arfcom if you dont mind used.

I chose the LMT FA. Works like a charm.

I had been eyeing the Bushmaster (when it was on sale) bcg at Midwayusa, but bought other things first. Checking out Bravocompanyusa now.

I agree that having a spare is better than not, and that one from Midway-USA is probably fine. I'd also get a bag or two of springs and pins. Make sure that you think twice about putting one in there that even smells like it's been near an M16. Although I'm sure that they're full of it, the word is that BATFE considers it to be "once, always," even on parts.

This may be a dumb question... but what is the difference between the Auto and Semi bcg?

The back of the auto one is heavier, to put up with the greater pounding of SF use.

    Semi:

    Auto:

Apparently, there's also some different geometry underneath, where it interfaces with the FCG, but so far as I know, they're functionally interchangeable.

Thanks for the info. Would it be in my best interest (legality wise) to stay with the bcg labeled for "semi" rather than the auto version?

The extended bit on the bottom of the FA carrier contacts and does something or other with the Auto Disconnector during full auto.

Some on here like tilting at windmills, and they'd tell you to use SF parts anyway. I like shooting, and I don't like spending shooting money on legal defense.

What Willie is referring to is the basis of the difference in geometry between the two carriers.
