Looks good! I had a few I wish I put some love into. Then again they helped fund other firearm ventures.

Just so you know......Formbys tung oil finish contains little (if any) Tung oil. It is a wiping varnish with >80% paint thinner. Its much faster than giving it a real oil finish but I am not sure how the final finish will compare on a stock.

Pure tung or linseed oil will not evaporate. It soaks into the wood and slowly hardens. It takes a while but I would use pure boiled linseed oil.

Worked on some minor polishing today while the kid took a nap. She's cleaning up pretty nice.

Can't wait to see the steps through your project.
That is exactly the steps I used except I didn't apply any stain. I'm pretty happy with the turnout. Will definitely do some things differently next time.

Thanks! If you ever come across another one that you want to get rid of... let me know.

Great information. I appreciate it. By the time I read your post I had already completed (4) coats, and didn't feel like starting over unless I had to. What do you think of the completed furniture, and how does the finish compare to a 100% tung/linseed oil finish? I did (10) coats total of the Formbys...

Once it was as clean as I could get it, I used 2000 grit wet/dry sand paper with gun oil, and a dremel tool with a polishing wheel and Mothers metal polish. Probably about 30 min per piece, but I still have more to go.
