GUN CONTROL FIGHT Advocates vow to spend millions in 2014 elections
    Dec 15, 2013 2:25 PM EST

Gun control advocates acknowledged Sunday that they were disappointed with efforts this year to tighten firearm laws across the country but vowed to continue their fight, including spending millions on their candidates in next year's elections.

Their comments came one year after the Sandy Hook elementary school massacre in which 20 students and six adults were fatally shot in Newtown, Conn. However, Congress failed to pass no major gun-control legislation in the aftermath.

"We get disappointed," said Mark Kelly, who co-founded the gun-control group Americans for Responsible Solutions with wife Gabrielle Giffords, the former congresswoman who was shot on the campaign trail in 2011.

The retired astronaut and Navy captain told "Fox News Sunday" the defeat of the so-called, bipartisan Manchin-Toomey Senate gun bill was "not a good day" but that his group plans to spend $25 million in the next election cycle.

Though the focus of America's gun debate appears to be shifting from weapons bans to keeping firearms away from criminals and the mentally ill, gun-rights advocates seem steadfast in their efforts to limit background checks and repeal laws that prevent people from defending themselves against attackers.

"There's no victory until we get guns in school and elsewhere to protect ourselves," Larry Pratt, executive director of Gun Owners of America, told Fox News. "The legislation that is on the books is lethal and we simply have to get rid of them."

Kelly said that anti-gun groups were able to spend about as much as pro-gun groups in the recent Virginia gubernatorial race in which Democrat Terry McAuliffe defeated Republican Ken Cuccinelli -- a sign that the balance of power is shifting after his side got outspent in the Capitol Hill gun debates.

Carlee Soto, whose sister was killed in the Dec. 14, 2012, attack at Sandy Hook elementary, in Newtown, Conn., also acknowledged the effort to tighten gun laws has been difficult, but she remains optimistic.

"Some days I don't want to speak in front of the camera but my sister can't do that," she told Fox News. "I believe we will have sensible gun laws in the future."

If money were all that mattered how does one account for the failure of decades and millions of Dollars worth of "In Kind" support that the Gun control community has received?

Turning on the local News or opening the local Paper one can see all sorts of biased accounts of firearms, their "social utility" and how bad they are for "society".

All Politics is local - Terry McAulliffe did NOT run primarily on an "anti-gun campaign". He ran on the nostalgia of Bill Clinton and the help of a pseudo Ross Perot candidate, a "libertarian who favored tax increases, and who was bankrolled by an Obama supporter.

In contrast Cuccinelli was stabbed in the back by the GOP Elites, as were were quite a few other candidates who were "too extreme" for the tastes of some inside of the beltway.

None the less, if the Gun Control community is not able to use Voter fraud and cover it up with these "justifications" then I am happy to let them keep on pretending to think that 'Things are going their way'.

Nothing new here they've been spending millions for a long long time, just ask Bloomburgers and Kathy Kane. They took a whole bunch of hits also ask the 3 dems in Colorado and the 4 concil members up in Vermont who are going.

Please keep spending your money fighting us, bankrupt yourself and become irrelevant. Grassroot support is more powerful than cash.

Unless we can secure some of the press away from the liberals AND go on the offensive instead of the defensive.

We should have politicians that look to overturn NFA and all other unconstitutional laws to keep THEM tied up as they have been keeping us tied up and on the defense with all of their anti law proposals.

I have NO CLUE what to do about our nations cities, everyone of them as far as I know are basically liberal slums on the government dole. And they are chock full of "low information" liberal voters.

I'm beginning to despise republican politicians. They refuse to take advantage when they have the edge and they lack the killing instinct of going for the throat.

They are a bunch of pussies who have grown too fat and lazy under the perks, pensions and addiction to power.

Where oh where is there a political someone who has the killing instinct of a democrat?

Reps are bound by rules, its part of being conservative. Liberals are not constrained by rules, hence they are liberal. Lol

    Well said.

"We get disappointed," said Mark Kelly, who co-founded the gun-control group Americans for Responsible Solutions with wife Gabrielle Giffords, the former congresswoman who was shot on the campaign trail in 2011.

Coming from the same guy who tried to purchase an AR 15 just to prove "How easy it is to get one..." and only talked about the purchase after it was reported in the local news.
