I'd prefer to stay under the radar and pay a tad more.
Have to agree there. That's why I gave up on the notion of a C&R - no ones business but my own.

Anyway, as all others said, much different now than when I had my "kitchen table dealer's license" under Reagan. Klinton turned the ATF into zoning enforcement officers; a lot more now has to be "proved" before you get approved.

And not just a Fed thing - have to have all your ducks lined up locally and with the state - stuff the Feds used to ignore...

Wonder when they will make ACORNs prove who they are at the polls...

    Greetings,

OP, if you're still on the fence about this, here's something else to contemplate. I see the issue not so much of the scheduled visits from BATFE, but having strangers come into your HOME. You can control this to some extant, but not fully.

Security I feel is a major concern, particularly at home. Once you start the biz, word will get around about what you have, your layout, etc. I have no idea of your property, but a detached building if possible would be much better than a room in your house. Or as someone else noted a dedicated basement entrance. Be aware that clients are bound to ask to use the restroom, etc.. They may also bring others along for the visit.

Can't be too careful. Best of luck whatever way you go.

    Regards, Jim
