Obtaining a gun in Pennsylvania.
I'm a native Virginian and I have a felony from a violent offense from 10 years ago, which isn't expunged. I'm now living in Pennsylvania and have done so for the past 4 years. I have no criminal record here and I'm interesting in getting a gun. Would my past history prevent me from getting a gun here?

Re: Obtaining a gun in Pennsylvania.
Yes, federal law precludes you from possessing a firearm or ammunition in any state.

Pennsylvania has its own list of prohibitors:

Re: Obtaining a gun in Pennsylvania.
Until this is cleared up, not only are you prohibited from purchasing, you are also prohibited from possessing. In fact, you shouldn't even be around guns, or ammo either.
Step one is to try to get a pardon from the Governor. Since your offense was in Virginia you will need an attorney licensed to practice there, and hopefully one familiar with the process.
Once that has been successful, step two is to try for an expungement of your record, same deal with the attorney.
As you might guess, this can take some time and money , and you're going to want to get it right the first time, so take your time and choose wisely. Good luck.
You might want to post a thread at OpenCarry dot Org in the appropriate sub forum. Great group of folks there, and a number of very good attorneys can be found there as well. While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

^^ Won't he need a pardon from the Governor of VA? Didn't they just elect a rabid anti-gun guy down there?

Re: Obtaining a gun in Pennsylvania.
Unless your felony had a max possible sentence of 1 year, or was of some certain blue collar crimes, - you are prohibited from owning, touch, or possessing a modern firearm or ammunition under federal law - anywhere where federal law has jurisdiction(USA, and all territories). You are allowed to own pre-1898 firearms and muzzleloaders (antique firearms)under federal law though. HOWEVER, PA law pretty much prohibits further possession of any antique firearm.
You have to abide by federal law first, then include state laws on top of that.
You cant even be in constructive possession of a gun. IE: not in actual direct possession, but rather, having one nearby that isn't in control and custody of a non-prohibited person.RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515

Re: Obtaining a gun in Pennsylvania.
I thought that was what I suggested, but yes. Also, the trick is to request a pardon for the right reasons, like employment. Trying yo raise a family and get a good job, and contribute to society in a positive way will likely produce better results than " Cuz ah wanna me sum guns, lolerz.".
For any employer looking to hire, a violent felony is a real deal killer, I would think. While many claim to support the right, precious few support the practice.

Offer the new Governor of Virginia some free birth control pills in exchange for a pardon. It seemed to work getting him elected.

That leaves hiring a bodyguard the only option then.
