    Default Magpul 1911 Grips (review)

Many 1911 fans have been requesting that Magpul produce a set of grips for a while now. Apparently after Magpul's trainers joined the chorus of folks requesting the grips they got busy and the MOE grip panels are the result. Here's what I've found with them:

    Pros:
-Ergonomic. The relief cut does aid in activating the mag release without having to shift your grip
-They have a 'medium' texture. Not so aggressive that it will fray clothing but they will provide a good gripping surface with wet, sweaty, or bloody hands
-They fit well with magwells but also look good with guns without a magwell
    -Compatible with ambi-safeties
-Thin. Only .25'' wide at max. This could be a pro or con I suppose but it is an important note
-Cost. The MSRP is only $20

    Cons:
-Only available for full size frames currently
-My grip panels have mold marks on the bottom. It doesn't bother me but I'm sure it'll bother some nit-picky folks.

I do like these grips overall and they'll be staying on one of my 1911s. Here's a video with some shooting (TRP and Range Officer used in the video), a close up and comparison of the grips and their features, followed by what I think of them overall:

Grips look cool but your 1911 has something wrong with it. It's railed

Ever get that IO hell pup back? I'm thinking about buying one.

I put VZ grips on all three of my 1911's at about $65 a pop. I'm a big fan of the VZ's, but at $20 for the MagPuls I would have at least given them a try first, had they been available a few years ago.

I just can't figure out why a big firearms component molding company like MagPul could overlook the market for something as popular & as simple as 1911 grips for so long. If they can mold mags, forearms, pistol grips, etc. for AR's; how hard could it have been for them to do a simple thing like handgun grips for 1911's, Sig's, etc.?

Bump! Anybody else have any input on these grips? I'm considering buy them for an RIA GI 1911A1 9mm pistol. This would be a range and "work gun" so "pretty" grips (e.g. my exotic wood grips from wicked grip on my all chrome commander 1911) aren't really necessary.

I have a set...the left panel has a notch to allow you to reach the mag release.

The grips are actually pretty thin even though you use the standard grip screws.

Some of the hard core 1911 may not like the Magpul grips, but I like the set I have...I'll probably get more down the road.
