Default Question about Glock 21 mags.

I have a Glock 21 generation 3. The original gen 3 with the big fat grip. I hope to pick up a second one someday but want it to be a generation 3 model 21 SF. Will I have to use caution not to mix up the spare mags.or will they work in both pistols? Thanks. Oh yeah, does SF stand for slim frame or something else?

The mags are not the same, they won't lock up. I found out to my surprise after I bought a sf version and yes they are easy to confuse. Actually I haven't shot my 21 since I got the sf version. Grip is a lot better, I can actually reach the trigger now and I love the ambi.

But let me ask why a gen3 sf? Just get a gen4. Without putting the blackstrap on, it's the same size and you don't have the mag issues.

I have a glock 30sf that has had no difficulties with any glock 21 mags. Is this problem specific to the older glock 21s?
    ...and they have a plan...

I don't know, I have never tried to put a g21 mag in a 30sf. I don't have a 30sf but I know the 21sf won't lock up with a g21 mag. I spent a lot of useless time when I first got it trying. The fs mags have a little rectangle in the front.

G21SF ('short frame'...smaller grip) mags will not work in G21 because the SF has an ambi mag release.
BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.

Glock changed this awhile back. Newer SF models don't have the ambi mag release anymore after Glock ditched the idea after durability issues. If your SF has a normal single sided mag release, regular mags will work fine. The old ambi mag release is usually found on G21s with a true picatinny rail vs the regular Glock rail.

Will the ambi cut mags lock into the non SF frame?
