Handgun Transfer Question
This question is going out not for me, but for my in-laws, wife's brothers. Basically, I thought certain handgun transfers were allowable between family members.
If a brother gifts a handgun to the other, what is the requirement for a transfer?
Thanks in advance!I forgot how much I missed the slang from the 70's and 80's: "Bite me, dig?"

Re: Handgun Transfer Question
Transfers INTRAstate between parents grandparents and spouses do not require an FFL
Brothers and in laws need to use an FFL or sheriff

Re: Handgun Transfer Question
Provided all participants are non-prohibited Pa residents and the transfer occurs in Pa then paperless handgun transfers are allowed for:
grandparents <-> grandchildren;
parents <-> children;
spouse <-> spouse.
All other Pa handgun transfers including sibling <-> sibling and those involving in-laws requires a formal transfer, usually through an FFL, same as a stranger <-> stranger.
If the participants are all residents of another state then that state's laws would govern. Additionally if the participants are not of the same state of residency then an FFL must be used pursuant to Federal law.Last edited by tl_3237; November 16th, 2013 at 11:44 AM.

Re: Handgun Transfer Question
I also have a question about handgun transfers. A friend of my wife has 5 pistols from her father and she is giving them to me. I only have an interest in keeping 1 of them and found a home for the other 4 in Michigan. They were just transferred to me yesterday, can I turn around tomorrow or Tuesday and ship them through an FFL to the person buying them from me?

Re: Handgun Transfer Question
As long as all of them were transferred to you correctly (through a FFL) then you can do with them as you please. You could have shipped them 2 minutes after they were legally transferred to you, there is no minimum period that you must own a gun before transferring it to someone else.

Re: Handgun Transfer Question
I filled out the 4473 and the form that goes to the State Police. Same as when I buy a new gun from a shop.

Re: Handgun Transfer Question
Hadn't decided to sell them at that point yet. The FFL that did the transfer doesn't ship them out either.
