Default I'm the proud owner of a brand new AR-15! (NSFW)

AR15s are so sexy, I'd hate to be caught looking at one at work. click on the picture to see her lovely figure in high resolution.

I know virtually nothing about AR15s or even this particular one except that it is a Stag Arms M4gery type 16" with a chromed barrel and a removable handle. I plan on tricking it out with some nice accessories in the future, including a sling, a bipod, and some nice optics, depending on what I learn is possible with my particular instance of this rifle. I also want to get a flat top Rock River Arms 24" stainless steel varmint upper in the future, as I hear they are very accurate out several hundred yards (prairie dog defense rifle?)! The exciting thing for me is that PA hunting law allows for amputees such as myself to hunt with semi-autos, so I plan on taking full advantage of that privilege to help control the groundhog population, even if i don't get out to South Dakota for prairie dogs.

I'm about to clean and lube it up for the first time. This is a little bit intimidating but I plan on using the internet as a resource:

I may have to ask you guys for help if something goes wrong. I have Hoppes #9 solvent, Weapon Shield, some Hoppes gun oil, and a 35 piece universal handgun/rifle cleaning kit. Do you think just using Weapon Shield will be sufficient? Are there specific things I need to buy to clean and lube my AR properly?

I'm open to all advice about all aspects of use and care. Hit me up!

    Peace (through superior firepower),

    R.B.

P.S. this will be cross-posted on THR

Congrats on your first AR! Notice I said FIRST!! It is an addictive disease that you have acquired...and there is no cure! (Except lack of funds from high gas prices! LOL)

    Nice rifle!

thanks guys. btw, what do I feed this thing? I'm pretty sure it has a 1:9 rifling twist on the 16" chrome lined barrel. I bought some Federal 55gr hollow point rounds because they were the cheapest thing at walmart but before a bulk buy I will consult you folks.

1:9 is a good twist because it's in the middle, it will handle 55gr stuff perfectly...Id even wager you could go a little under or over that in projectile weight and still be ok.

I'm pretty sure Stag Arms recommends using the pink floral paper towels you have on the chair for cleaning...

seriously though, nice rifle. I built a 16" AR w/ a collapsible stock - more like a CAR than an M4 and it's a handy little piece.
