Default Sig 556 - First impressions.

Well, I finally had a chance to get out and shoot my new 556. The range where we were going to shoot was flooded so we just shot in my friend's backyard at some targets ~50 yards up the hill. Because we were limited to that distance, I had zero chance to sight it in (not that it matters because I am still waiting for my ACOG and I haven't gotten around to ordering the BUIS).

Anyway, after popping off a few magazines, I am amazed at how smooth the action is. Very little recoil (even for an AR type rifle) and very easy to keep on target. Once I get some decent sights for this thing, I'll get it back out, put it through its paces, and write a decent review.

    Ahh.... good times.

Congrats on the purchase. Please post a report when you get the ACOG on it. I am considering a 556, but I'm also debating an AR as well. I have heard that the 556 is a much smoother, better shooting rifle, but the furniture and iron sights are rather cheaply made. Any thoughts about this? I'm sure these problems can be remedied with a few minor upgrades. Overall, it seems like a great 5.56mm alternative to the AR. Have fun.

I always chime in when I see a SIG 556 thread. I own one and love it,never fails me and It will be my go to gun if need be. It likes the heavier grain bullets due to it's 1 in 7 twist. I have an aimpoint sight on mine. To the OP, enjoy it and let us know how it does with the ACOG.
