Quick question regarding denial of purchase today.
I went to the local Army & Navy today to purchase a handgun. I was denied and can only attribute it to a misdemeanor charge 15 yrs. ago. I was young and foolish and am now a married and a father of 2 living here in Allentown. I dread the day that something happens to me or my family due to the crazy increase of violence in the city! I was charged w/ a misdemeanor offense though not sure what I plea bargained. I'm in the process now of challenging the findings and hope all turns out well. My question is would a charge prevent me from ever owning a firearm? How about a rifle? Thanks for any help!

The fact is I never handled the firearm but the idoit I was with did have it. Again I know regardless of who had what I should have known better but I was young and simply made a bad call. I have since matured and am truley forgot all about that until today. I seriously dont think this is a reason to ban me from owning a gun for life! Am I wrong?

I would think that the handgun charge was a felony.

Re: Quick question regarding denial of purchase today.
You're done. You plead guilty to the firearm charge. That had a possible sentence of over one year in prison, although you may had not have been given that much.
The law says if you are convicted of a crime with a sentence of one year or more, even though you have a lesser sentence, it sticks.
Sorry, but no firearms for you.
Sad. You've paid your debt to society, and unfortunately, you have to pay for it the rest of your life.

Re: Quick question regarding denial of purchase today.
Carrying Firearm Without A License is a 1st degree Misdemeanor. That is a definite prohibitor, and you cannot possess/purchase firearms.
You say that you plea bargained?
Either you aren't telling the whole story, or your lawyer was an idiot.
If what you are saying is true, you should look into getting relief from disibility or a governors pardon...either one is a lenghty process and expensive.

Re: Quick question regarding denial of purchase today.
Its a shame. I will keep my head up high and try to challenge it regardless. Then I will take it from there. Its just heart breaking that I see thugs on the streets w/ guns and all and its so easy for them to get. I make a mistake and the rest of my life I must suffer for it? Now I'm stuck between doing what right or protecting my family. Thanks all for all your help! God Bless!
