Default There's NJ for you ...

This guy's heart was obviously in the right place, but his head wasn't. Not sure what he was thinking ... he was clearly running afoul of the Garden State's ultra-strict gun laws, even if he was only trying to help.
But then again, that's what you get for living in a state like that I suppose.
Anywhere else, this would have been a complete non-story.

What do you think would have happened if this occurred in Pa rather than NJ?

Specifically Pa's 18 Pa CS 6106 statute prohibiting CC/vehicle carry sans license or exemption?

Because of the Democrats in NJ who extended the Grave Act (mandatory prison terms) to cover simple possession, not only possession during the commission of a crime, this young marine is looking at a mandatory prison sentence of at least three and more likely 5-10 years.

That's how screwed up our state is thanks to the Democrats.

First off, nowhere in the story does it say that this guy had driven to the mall. (Most likely he did, but technically he could have walked there. But that's really not the point in any of this).
So to your point about what my thoughts are on if this had happened here in Pa. ... yes, if he had driven to the mall carrying his .45 and didn't have a LTCF, of course he would have been breaking Pa. law.
I get what you're saying, but my point was the mere "carrying" of a gun in a situation like this wouldn't necessarily be a story if this guy lived in a state that respected his rights.
That was my point about this situation being a virtual non-story if it happened in other states.

Well for starters as long as he was eligible for a license, which being a Marine he probably was, he is looking at a maximum of 5 years in Pa, probably wouldn't get near that. According to the comments in the article, in NJ he is looking at a MINIMUM of 5 years.

The comments are terrible, it seems those people are on board with NJ's head long rush into Communism. Here is one of the most stomach twisting comments:

I was thinking the same thing. What a bunch of pantywaist weenies. There really is no hope for those people or that state.

I am just wondering (after having read the posts so far) how many people reading this discussion think that if Mr. Donovan had not been carrying a gun, his entry into the mall in an attempt to help the police find the shooter would have then been OK with, or even welcomed by the police. Like they wanted to form a posse, or something.

I am not questioning Mr. Donovan's courage, but I do question the wisdom of entering a Mall illegally carrying a gun, knowing that the police are in there, nerves on edge, looking for a guy with a gun.

I agree that NJ's gun laws are too restrictive, but this isn't about Mr. Donovan's gun rights.

That is what happens when you've been indoctrinated for several decades. They are doing it to the rest of the country as well.
