Penn Township
Hello again, My name is Chad. I'm new to the site and just looking to see if there is anybody
local like penn township area that would like to chat about firearms and/or go shooting.
I'm on a very strict budget (with Christmas coming) and am looking for someplace free at
the moment to practice and maybe someone to teach me about my firearms.
I haven't fired any of these since I was a young'n (I'm 27 now). Thanks!Last edited by HondaGamerDude; November 6th, 2013 at 11:08 PM.

Re: Penn Township
I'm in Irwin. I didn't renew my McKeesport Sportsmans membership since I'm hopefully moving in Jan, so I'm range-less at the moment.

Re: Penn Township
Sounds great, I will have to look into that. I used to shoot at the slate dumps in Westmoreland City years ago. Lots of people would show up at any given time, is it like that? Thanks.

I'm over near Jeannette, would be up for some plinking also. I haven't been looking too hard but a place like you want to find would be great. Too bad i have a bunch of outdoor stuff to get done or this weekend would be perfect to go. give me a yell.

Re: Penn Township
Not wanting to rain on anyone parade and I may be wrong on this, However I was under the impression target shooting is only allowed on private property with permission from the land owner, or approved gun range. The land you are talking about is not only patrolled by the PA, game commission. But also the Federal Park ranger at the Dam as this is Federal land. I believe I would check with both before I just went out shooting. Fines could add up to a club membership with fewer hassles.
I copied this from the general forum. I believe this applies to the area you are talking about.
017 Pa Code § 21.65. Target shooting.
Target shooting with firearms, bows and arrows or devices capable of launching projectiles and causing injury to persons or property is prohibited except where authorized by the District Forester or a designee.Last edited by hornady; November 17th, 2013 at 04:16 PM. Reason: text added

Re: Penn Township
How about the old Penn dump just off Richmond Lane, just outside of Penn. I know there's areas there where shooting takes place. There's a lot of dirt bike riding that goes on there too. Check it out......

Re: Penn Township
Here again without permission you risk fines and trespassing. To say others do it would not be a very effective defense in court. On occasion I have driven over the posted speed limit as well as many others. I don’t think if a cop pulls me over he will buy into everyone else is speeding defense. This past summer a couple guys thought shooting at Boyce Park was a good idea not so much.
