Looking for places to shoot near York
Here's my situation:
I'm working in York (for the last 8 months). Because of my Commute from Allentown, I haven't had time to do much of anything (and in the year and a half before that, I was working/moving my family, etc so I didn't get a chance to shoot there either).
I am going to either move the family here (probably R.L. or Dallastown school districts, but that is still up for discussion) this summer, or rent a room myself and move next summer ($400+ in gas a month is a pain not to mention 20 hours a week in commute time and 800+ miles!).
I was looking for a place to shoot:
Open evenings (and possibly during the day if I get free time).
Close enough (York area) to head there without making it a major trip.
Able to shoot: Pistols, Rifles (including AR/AKs), Shotguns, and .50bmg.
Not terribly expensive (either annual membership or per time).
Preferably somewhere you can do some rapid fire (for fun/function check).
Any thoughts?
Thanks!!

Re: Looking for places to shoot near York
There is an indoor range in York.
Last time I called the deal was:
$9 for 30minutes
Have to shoot his ammo
The hours are only a suggestion, call first.
I'll also suggest ACSHA, but that's about an hour from York.Adams County Sport Handgunners Association - President

Re: Looking for places to shoot near York
Welcome: This is the place I use in (insert personal choice) weather I don't like.
Freedom Armory - Just off RT83 South, at the Glen Rock Exit. New, nice, knowledgeable staff, rifle range downstairs, hand gun main flr. Pictures, directions, etc on this URL.

Re: Looking for places to shoot near York
I had stopped by the Indoor place in York (over by the fairgrounds, right?), but he looked closed--then at the York gunshow, someone was handing out cards for the place (maybe it was being fixed up).
I have seen Glen Rock/Freedom Armory. Not terribly expensive for their hourly rate membership, and it looked like a nice, clean facility--still need somewhere to just go and blast or shoot clays also.
Thanks for the suggestions!

Here are some options for you.

http://www.seitzlandrifleclub.com/
http://jeffersonsportsmen.org/
I'm doubt you will find any local range that will let you shoot a .50, rapid fire may be a problem at most too. I'm a member at jefferson sportsmen if you any specific questions about there.

Re: Looking for places to shoot near York
Seitzland doesn't like rapid fire, and humanoid targets were prohibited when I was a member there up until the early part of this decade.
You're going to have a tough time finding a place to shoot that 50 BMG.
York area, near Red Lion/Dallastown - try the Issac Walton League range there in Jacobus.West Shore Sportsmen's Association WSSA Home page

Re: Looking for places to shoot near York
That's West York Sporting Goods: http://www.westyorksportinggoods.com/
They tend to vary in hours but always seem to be open on Friday and Saturday at least. Their site says to call first. They used to only let you shoot their ammo, but for an additional surcharge, you can now shoot your own ammo (with limitations). You should be able to take your pistols as well your AKs and ARs there.
There is also a free public outdoor range between York and Dillsburg. I have not been there, so I don't really know many other details.
There is also the West Shore Sportsmans Association: http://www.westshoresportsmen.org/
Isaak Walton League and Adams County Sport Handgunners Association were previously mentioned, their sites are: http://www.yorkchapter67iwla.org/ and http://www.acsha.com/.
EDIT: There's also http://www.jeffersonrifleclub.com/, http://www.glenrockshootingclub.org/, and http://starviewsportsmen.org/Last edited by weaselchew; May 16th, 2008 at 11:17 AM. Reason: Added a few more

It's pretty scenic, they have a main area for rifles and then a handgun area off to the side with another 6-8 lanes/target stands. Three distances.
Downsides:
- Contingent on weather
- State guidelines, max rounds, no auto, 3 rounds for rifle, 6 for handgun.
- Occasional oddballs, newbs (like me), gang-bangers (who can't shoot for !@#$ , gave them two of my targets. After an hour and several magazines. They got two on target. I am now convinced that standing might be safer than fleeing. You might accidentally "run" into their bullets.)

Re: Looking for places to shoot near York
I live in east york and the closest one to me is Windsor Fish and Game . They are outdoors but the shooting area is covered. It's 200 yard and there aren't a lot of goofy rules that you have to deal with. If you'd like to meet up one day I'd be glad to give you the tour and try out your .50 cal to make sure it works ok with that range

Re: Looking for places to shoot near York
I go up to East Berlin Fish and game club. I have never been questioned about my semi auto pistols, so I would assume AK/AR friendly. I have seen other people shoot AR's there though. 50bmg may be a stretch, but I don't recall seeing anything in the rule book. There is also an in-door .22 range and indoor bow range. 25 yards I think. Its really nice for the money too. I think its about 15 miles from west york, so maybe not a lunch trip.
