.625 gas block front sight?
Hey guys,
Does anyone know of any company that makes a folding front sight/gas block for an .625 barrel? I am building an AR for my sister and the D.D. Upper has a perminatly attached muzzle break to give it a legal 16". It has the standard "A" frame front sight, and I would like to cut it off and add a folding one.... So I will need a clamp on like the YHM listed below....but All I can find are ones that are .750

I would also settle for a clamp on "railed" gas block.... If that is all I can find!

Midwest industries.

or Precision Reflex ( PRI )

Neither option is cheap, but look to be good quality. I added some photos for reference....Last edited by Splittiebus66; November 6th, 2013 at 02:25 PM.

Re: .625 gas block front sight?
You don't need to cut it off. You can drive out the taper pins.
I'd leave the A2 style sight post. They are way more robust than the clamp on type you've shown. Pinned Gas Block/Front Sight Post > screw on/clamp on.Last edited by animalmother85; November 6th, 2013 at 02:33 PM. Reason: clamp on...oops

Re: .625 gas block front sight?
Hey guys!
Thanks for the help.... The problem is the permanently attached battle comp.
It has to be one that clamps from the bottom... Slide on's won't work....
That is my boggle!
Worst come to worst I may live with the "A" frame.... Or cut it above the gas block and
Cover it with a midi tube or hand guard and then mount a BUIS on the top rail
Which would be more expensive.... But may be my only option if I am S.O.L!
Thanks!

Oh... Just to clarify... I am mounting a Lucid HD7 red dot scope on this rifle as the primary sight... The pop ups are just for BUIS use!

Re: .625 gas block front sight?
Cut down the FSB, grind and file the sharp edges. Spray some high temp grill paint on the exposed metal. Dremel the delta ring, pull off the spring, pop on a two-piece free float or use a rail that will use the original barrel nut. That will cost though.
You could always just pull the barrel and sell it.
I'm not against clamp gas blocks yet as the Adams Arms kit I used for a friend hasn't budged at all and has a little over 1k rounds through it (one day put about 300 through it). Does that mean it never will? I can't tell you that. Of course I would always prefer pinned vs set screw/loctite vs clamped. But... I don't always have that choice for the cost savings. But I really don't like the idea of a screw clamp (ie two piece) for the clamping action. Never used it though.
Hope it works out though.Last edited by ViperHummel; November 7th, 2013 at 12:41 PM.
