    Default Safety Training/Courses

I am, first, new to this and, second, interested in getting my first gun. Before that, however, I would like to take some safety training, etc. It's been some time since I've actually fired a gun and my fiancee, and me, would prefer having some safety training first. Are there any particular places, recommended people or places, for such training in the area (preferably State College area)? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

In addition to any recommendations you may get here, you can also check the NRA's website.

As a newly minted Basic Pistol instructor, I'm going to have to figure out how to get myself listed on there LOL

The NRA classes (First Steps and Basic Pistol) are great for beginners. I teach them both. The Fire Institute one day handgun clinic (www.fireinstitute.org) is a step up from that, with more shooting and a little more self-defense flavor.

I am taking the Fire Institute three day class coming up in a few weeks. I can't wait.

    Ferg,
Check the State College yellow pages (I'm not in town right now so I can't). I believe Randy Smith (who was in Boalsburg) is still an instructor and gives classes. You can also search the forum (look under the Training Courses Section). IIRC there are classes held periodically in the Altoona/Hollidaysburg area also.
