Re: 12 ga barrel length?
Thanks for the replies guys. I know this isn't the ideal gun for clays but I couldn't pass it up for 270 and a 20 dollar gift card.
So anyway, being the type that gets hung up on stupid details, I called the store and they said they'd exchange it so I went ahead and got the 28" barrel. I'm sure it's just a mental thing but I must say that after handling the 26 incher, this one feels a mile long, lol. The stock was nicer on the other one too but I'm not going to worry much about that. One thing I didn't notice until I got home was that the darn vent rib is both warped and cocked. I called Remington and they said to take it out and shoot it before returning it, just to be sure there are no other issues. So it's off to the range, which ain't a bad thing I guess.
One of these days I'm going to learn to stop sweating the little stuff, lol.

You'll do fine with a 26 all around. Have fun with it and don't listen too much what the Dandy's say.

Re: 12 ga barrel length?
The length is all about sight distance and comfortable shooting. The NRA did a test on tube length years back and there is no difference in patterns between a 34" and 18" tube as long as the chokes are the same on both barrels. When I was a kid all I had was a single shot. I was real excited when I finally saved up enough for a used pump. I went back to the single shot. The pump was too long for a brush gun. Something to think about if you are hunting with a shotgun.

Re: 12 ga barrel length?
No way. The pattern in my 18.5" mossberg with the improved cylinder (no choke) is nowhere near the pattern in my 28" benielli with the improved cylinder choke when using the same shells. I would believe that the difference is negligible comparing a 26" barrel to a 28" barrel.
Stay armed my friends.

Re: 12 ga barrel length?
I use a 28 inch for clays. Most at my club use 32 inch. I hold my own. Your 26 should be OK. By the way, some women won't shop there. They just don't like Dicks!

Re: 12 ga barrel length?
Do you really shoot clays with a 18.5" barrel? I just picked up a 930 SPX 18.5" barrel and im toying with the idea of trying to shoot sporting clays with it. Ive shot them before with a group of people using their hunting shotguns, in a group of 8 people shooting i came in 3rd, i switched of and on between my friends dad Remington 1100 and a Beretta O/U that was a rental. The thing im a little concerned about would be it having a ghost ring sight, that ive never used before.
IANAL

Slightly off topic.... But ....
really shoot clays with a 18.5" barrel? I
I have noticed that we don't all mean the same things even when we use the same words. To me, "shooting clays" means shooting 16 yard ATA Trap singles.
What does it mean here, I wonder
