Default Can I change the rear sight on this 1911?

I bought this Springfield Custom 1911 recently. It has a Robar target rear sight. Here's the question. I'd like to carry this gun, and would like to have a more "normal" rear sight put on it for carry. The Robar has sharp edges that I'm worried would snag on clothing. The slide appears to be cut differently than most, I'm assuming to accept the Robar. Are there some more normal carry sights that will fit this cut? Thanks.

I can not answer your question, but that sure is one beautiful pistol!

Sorry, guess that was not the answer you were looking for. LOL

Not to sound like a dick, but I think that's a BO-MAR rear site not Robar.

You're kindasortof stuck with the adjustable sight, off the top of my head, I can't think of a fixed sight that will fit that cut, I'm not saying one doesn't exist, but if IIRC, the Bo-mar sights use a different cut than say Heinie, Novak, 10-8, Heirloom Precision etc. etc. due to fitting the sight into the slide. You could probably have the rear of the slide filled in but that would kind of be a sin to do that to the gun in question IMHO.

The best advice I can give you is to call Springfield and ask the people that built it, I know the railed TRP has an adjustable sight with tritium inserts, the edges aren't too sharp on it, you may be able to have a similar sight installed...

You bought one hell of a fine pistol, and to be blatantly honest, you should leave it the hell alone, if you wanted a gun with fixed sights for carry, that's what you should have bought.

Why alter a beauty of a Springfield Custom?

Champion makes a sight for the Bomar cut that is supposed to be a carry adjustable. It looks pretty much the same as what you have except the rear edges are rounded and other edges are beveled. You could have the rear edges rounded on yours though if you wanted to.

When do we see the pic with new ivory grips?
