    Default Interesting rig.

An acquaintance of mine, a Russian émigré, I've known for several years recently tried his hand at one of our club IDPA matches. Although his gear wasn't IAW the rules we let him try the game anyhow rather than discourage him.

His chosen handgun was a Makarov, but what was unique was the holster he used. It was skeletonized and held the pistol pretty securely. I don't remember a top strap. But, the interesting part was the pistol was inserted into the holster with a fully loaded magazine, but NO round chambered. Instead of "drawing" the pistol he would grab the grip and push the gun DOWN and THROUGH the holster, which operated the slide and chambered a round.

I thought it an interesting rig, obviously something one concerned about carrying with a round chambered would be interested in. On the downside, I thought it an interesting way to shoot off a toe!

Has anyone else any experience with holsters of this type?

I do believe this is the holster the Spetsnaz uses.

Is this it? Found it in a thread at arfcom. Doesn't look like something I'd want to try.

That's the one the OP was probably discribing. I believe some holster will actually flip the safety off during the draw too.

Just keep the booger hook off the boom stick and it would be good to go.
I always stressed to my son"one shot one kill that was all that is needed". When He came home from Marine Corp Boot camp He was telling me about the Marines stressing "ONE SHOT ONE KILL" He looks at me and the light bulb went on Dad was now a whole lot smarter than he was 13 weeks ago.

I didn't think I'd seen everything, but this is definitely out of left field.

Thanks for letting me know about this.

So much for a quiet, non-committal draw I guess.

Well, I can see the advantages in an sport where the gun must be unloaded.

However, it looks horrible for weapon retention.... unless I am missing something, it seems like you just have to push the gun down to get it out of the holster...
