Default looked at a 44 mag desert eagle / pros /cons?

I stopped in at Browns yesterday afternoon to pick up some .40 cal an as always quickly browsed his pistols an got sucked in by a desert eagle , should have never asked to get a closer look , now I want one . any one here have one ? I was wondering about their pros an cons , on initial inpection the only thing is its a lil big for my hand but a grip change could make that a better fit ,an I might easily be swayed into adding it to the collection of guns I have.

My buddy runs one in a 357. Nice gun but very ammo picky. Can only use 158 grainers in it. Only thing that will cycle. Also they reccomed a copper based bullet so the gas port does not lead foul. So in 357 that limits him to plated bullets (total copper jacket) or jacketed soft points. A FMJ has an exposed lead base.

Again it's not mine but that is what he tells me.

    I had 2 of them back in the 1990's. A 357 and a 44.

    Pros:
    1. They are built like a tank and will last.
    2. They make girls wet their panties.
    3. Your male friends will envy you.
    4. You can legitimately pretend to be Arnold Schwarzenegger from most of his movies.
    5. You'll look cool at the range.

    Cons:
    1. They weigh as much as a tank.
    2. They aren't practical for carrying because of their size and weight.
    3. They can be very picking on what ammo will cycle the action.(they prefer hot loads, which in today's pussified shootist world is rare to find)
    4. If you do carry one - most other gun enthusiast will think you're a 'tard.

BCM and Glock...for a bigger pile of 'cold dead hands' brass.

i had a 50ae and it was a good gun and digested all the 50ae i could feed it. my DE was 100% reliable with decent accuracy but it is heavy and follow up shots take time. great range toy but due to the weight and size not really a good choice for self defense outside or inside the home. if you can get it for a good price they are fun to shoot and always a attention getter at the range. with the price of ammo these days they are also a lot more expensive to feed. all in all in my opinion the DE is a great addition to any collection so long as you realize its limitations.

thanks guys , I wasn't thinking about it for a carry sidearm but more of a range toy , an also the fact of it's being semi auto would be nice in the collection , I have a .44 lever marlin , .44 ruger revolver , it just seems right . but at any rate I think I will think on it some more. thanks again !

I've shot a DE in .357 mag and the recoil was a lot softer compared revolvers but the grip frame was massive in my medium sized hands. I did put rounds on paper at 50 yards though.
Go head, skin it. Skin that smoke wagon and see what happens.

not bad for keeping a boat in one spot but you can get almost the same results by tying two cinder blocks to a heavy nylon rope.

    Mack Bolan now carries one.

I have one in .44 Mag. I bought it because it was cool and I got an incredible deal on it. I've fired maybe 20 rounds through it. The thing is just too damned big. I don't have giant paws but I do have reasonably sized hands but it is really too big for me to hold comfortably. Maybe if I had hands like Bill Jordan.

Shoulder holster is really the only practical way to carry it unless you wear a belt that cuts off your circulation. Not that its a practical weapon.

Kind of like those ranch hands in 357 or 44. Is it kind of cool? Sure. Can you carry one for protection in theory? Yeah. Does that make it a good idea? Nope.
    1776 or 1984? - You decide.
