10/22 gunsmith
Any gunsmiths that specialize in Ruger 10/22 in PA especially in Northeast (Luzerne County and surrounding areas)? I have some reliability issues and the rifle is not stock.

Does anyone know the number for 9-1-1?

Re: 10/22 gunsmith
What issues do you have in particular? I don't know any smiths that specialize with 10/22s in PA, but there are a few over on RFC. I have had Randy at CPC do some 10/22 work for me in the past.

Re: 10/22 gunsmith
A few questions
1. Failure to extract the case from the chamber? How often?
2. Failure to eject the spent casing? (hangs around in receiver) How often?
3. Ruger factory or aftermarket barrel?
4. Type of ammo this happens with? (if multiple types, list them)
5. Vintage/Age of 10/22?
6. Aftermarket "Buffer pin" installed?
7. Any other non-stock items installed?
8. Lubrication- what lube and how much?
9. Magazines used? Stock Ruger mags or something else?
As previously mentioned, rimfire central is great.Last edited by Enfielder; October 15th, 2013 at 06:04 PM.

Re: 10/22 gunsmith
No failure to extract
There are ejection issues mostly stove pipes
Aftermarket Green Mt Barrel
I’ve tried a lot of different ammo. The best luck has been with ammo with copper clad bullets
Its newer 5-6 years but very minimally used
I bought it as a winter project used a bunch of aftermarket parts not sure about buffer pin.
Not heavily lubed
Using both Ruger and butler creek mags (but usually Ruger)
Initially with regular AE lead ammo I was having probably 1 or more time per mag switching to copper coated bullets problems are down but not gone.
One of the problems is I have a large quantity of AE lead bullets. And my Browning Buckmark dosent love it either.

Re: 10/22 gunsmith
Hmm. Green Mountain barrel should be OK and not a source of problems. If no trouble extracting, then it is not a chamber burr drag on the spent casing. Again, Green Mountain = low probability that it is the barrel that is bad.
By "buffer pin" I mean one of those aftermarket plastic cross-pins that is supposed to reduce the horrible unbearable noise the bolt makes upon recoil Sometimes the plastic pin has a rebound, causing issues with ejecting. I tried one years ago and it gave me ejection problems, which went away after I put the steel pin back in.
Have you ran CCI Mini-Mags through it? They tend to be the best quality commonly available high-velocity .22LR ammo, especially for semi-autos. If it won't run CCI Mini-Mags out of Ruger 10-round magazines well, then something is quite wrong.
Also try thorough cleaning and very tiny film of lube. Apply a very thin lube, such as CLP, then wipe it all off; you won't remove it all at the "nano level", then using quality ammo, see how it runs. Obviously don't go through an entire brick on low lube. Best of luck to you.Last edited by Enfielder; October 18th, 2013 at 06:55 PM.

Re: 10/22 gunsmith
In my experience, ejection problems with the 10/22 are usually caused by the extractor. Replace the stock extractor with a Volquartzen or Power Custom.
