star bm
just bought a star bm. Do I have to hold in the magazine release to put the
clip in all the way? It stops halfway up the magazine well if I don't hold the
mag release.

Re: star bm
I dunno, but I'm cracking up because you said "magazine release", "magazine well", and "mag release", yet referred to the magazine as a "CLIP"!
Clip??? AAAAAHHHHH!!!!
LOL!
Welcome from the resident "clip police".
Hope someone comes along soon with a helpful answer.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Re: star bm
If you put a little force on the clip...uh..magazine, will it go in without pressing the mag release? I'm not talking about mag release breaking force, but some decent force.

Re: star bm
the magazine disconnect safety is putting pressure on the mag, which is making it harder to insert.
If you were the kind of person who was willing to disable such a device you would need to remove both grips, then use a pin punch to push out MDS. On the left side You'll notice a small round hole with a rod it it about half an inch above the bottom of the grip frame, that's your magazine disconnect safety (the other side of it rides vertically in a slot machined into the right side of the grip). Use your punch to push it out, a mallet or block of wood may be helpful. VOILA! You are done, put your grips back on and hurl your MDS into oblivion. Another advantage of this is that you now have "drop-free" mags.
I can post pics if you need them.
The BM (teehee) is an awesome piece BTW. Only downside is that you can't shoot +P in it.

Re: star bm
Mine use to hold up a bit halfway, but I just gave it a bit more umph and no problems since with the stock mag or an aftermarket I bought. Good luck.

Re: star bm
The mags don't drop free if the safety is left in the gun? I'm only asking because I don't own a gun with a magazine safety thing a ma bob. I was considering the mag release spring being stiff and the mag release catch not sliding over when the top of the mag hit against it. Some of my 1911's were the same way (had to push mag release button to insert mag past the catch point) right up until I took a couple coils out of the mag release spring. Presto...problem solved.
