Default Accelerator Sabots: .224 bullets in any .308 caliber gun

Has anyone else ever tried this? I know that I've seen factory .30-30 ammo from Remington loaded like this; it was on the shelf at Cabela's, but I never bought any. Anybody tried them and know if they can be accurate? It's the same basic idea as a shotgun sabot, only smaller, and I know that the accuracy of any shotgun is limited in comparrison to a varmint gun. The idea here is to take a .30 caliber gun and turn it into a high velocity varmint gun, but I'm not sure how consistent it will be if the bullet has to leave the sabot in mid-flight, just like a shotgun sabot does. How deep should they be seated into the casing? Or, how far back from the beginning of the rifling? .030"? Or maybe .015"? What'yall think of this in general? I'm thinking I might be able to give my neighbor a run for his money with the old .30-30 virsus his .22-250. Aye?

Very old news, Remington marketed loaded ammunition in 30-06, 308 & 30-30 that was saboted down to 0.223". Had very high muzzle velocity but dismal accuracy. Wouldn't cycle my M1 either.

Not worth the money from my experience. Works better to get a smallbore chambered in a magnum size rather than using an adapter (sabot).

Try some accelerator for yourself before investing a lot.

I bought the sabots and loaded my own in .30-30, .30-06, .300 WM, and .30M1 carbine. Results were all the same. Minute of barn door. Accuracy was non-existant.

Man, you guys were right. Now I have my proverbial tail tucked and my ears flattened. I had already ordered the stuff right before I posted the original message on this thread, so the stuff was already on the way. I tried messing around with finding a load that would be accurate with those sabots, but to not avail. Yeah, minute of barn door is about right. They chronied at some pretty high velocities though. 3000+ fps. but that's worthless when they are inaccurate.
So if anybody likes watching Mythbusters, then here is a myth that I busted. Accelerator sabots do not work well in rifles. I guess I'll say something like Thomas Edison when he was trying to invent the lightbulb: Now we know one more way that doesn't work.
