I just noticed a fresh tree scrape the other morning as I was dragging my deer out of the woods. It's the first buck sign I've seen this year. I'm hunting a new game land this season so I don't know how strong the signs will be.

I hunted Evansburg last season and found tons of sign. Finally saw the buck I was looking for but I was walking into the woods. He spooked when he saw me. Maybe this season I'll have better luck.

It hasn't been too bad down my way. I mean we've had 80 degree days but in the mornings getting to my stand I've actually got pretty chilly.

Now coming out of the stand and into an open field....bleh....catch a train to sweat central.

It was a really nice day. I wish I had brought the thermacell though. Thought it would be a little too windy/chilly for the skeeters but I guess not...

Got to the stand around 3:30pm. Halfway up the ladder I saw two small doe feeding along the trail behind my stand. Watched them for a bit.

around 4:30 a group of 5 doe went through the grassy area and up towards a neighboring corn field. 2 of the Doe were Big'uns

Saw another big doe around 5:40 and a Medium doe a little after 6. Saw 9 total, nothing within range.

If all goes well I'll be out again tomorrow then again on Saturday

I was able to slip out of work at around 4:30pm. A buddy and his wife allowed me to hunt archery on their new property this year. I had a blind set up since the 2nd week of Sept. so I slipped over with my crossbow. My son kept texting me, asking for updates. At 6:20 I looked down at my phone and then looked back up only to see a doe staring right at the blind. She was curious but I don't think she knew what was going on. I sighted her in and pulled the trigger, only to somehow see my bolt hang vertically from a tree 10yds before it ever got to the deer. I still cannot piece together what the heck happened. I later found that a vine was wrapped around the bolt but still. This is the same setup that breaks ribs going in and coming out the other side. I don't get it. I told my son I was going to sit tight until just before dark but I was shutting off my phone.

Just before 7pm a bigger doe walks up from the woods and steps into the field broadside to me at about 25 yds. It was a picture perfect shot. This time, everything went as practiced and the shot hit where I aimed. I packed up all my stuff and got the truck, etc to let her bleed out but man, there was blood everywhere. She only ran about 30 yds downhill before dropping. I didn't even need to bend over to question the blood trail. It looked like someone poured it from a watering can.

Sorry about the blood but to be honest, I want to see it. I want to see the hole for shot placement, how well the broadhead performed, what kind of a blood trail it left, etc.
I use a crossbow with the best shot placement I can get at the time because nothing sucks worse than not finding an animal that you just hit.

I wouldn't post these somewhere like Facebook but for you guys.. here they are:
