Re: 2013 Archery report 2013
Got a decent, but busted up 8 pointer on Monday evening.
Shot him at 5 yards, ran about 70 yards and jumped straight into a pond! Died in the middle of it. Had to use a pole and rope to lasso his antlers to get him out.
Has a 17 inch spread.

Nice buck^^^^^^^ Took off work today and promptly got sick yesterday. Headed out later , hopefully the worst behind me.
Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

Re: 2013 Archery report 2013
Quite disappointed in myself. Watched a fawn playing around for about 5 or 10 minutes yesterday right along a tree line. It kept looking into the woods and sure enough it's momma came walking out of the trees and into my field. I watched her moving around for a few minutes but she wasn't giving me any broadside shots. She was moving toward me and then back away, but never showed me her side for long enough to sight in. Then finally she got right up to the tree line with her whole side just screaming at me to put a bolt in it. I lined her up, took a shot and heard a loud thunk right after.
I knew I didn't hit her because she ran about 25 to 30 yards and then stopped for a minute before taking off into the woods. Went to investigate and as I suspected, the bolt hit a tree. Lost the broad head as it was fully imbedded, but I was able to recover the bolt, with no blood.
I am not sure what happened, but I suspect that with her moving to and fro, I must have had a brain fart and sighted her in on the 40 yard marker on my scope rather than the 30.
I have really been hoping to get a buck in (I have seen two 7 or 8 pointers on the trail cams before the season started), but haven't seen one yet while out. There is still plenty of time left to hunt, I just need to concentrate. Adrenalin will mess with the mind. I am just glad I didn't knick her during my screw up.

Re: 2013 Archery report 2013
Well.. I got out in the woods slightly before 6 this morning.. I put in a couple light grunts at sun up and figured I would see how the morning would go.
At 7:28 I had a nice 8pt walk in on my about 50 yards to my right and walking downhill away from me. I let out two quick grunts and he turned around and started his way up the hill towards me..closer..closer..closer.. 25yds.. 20yds..
He then stood behind a tree so I thought perfect, draw now and when he steps out I'll take the shot.
Wrong.
I started my draw and he decided to to take another quick step..in the process he also happened to look my direction. The way he cocked his head during the final part of my draw seemed like he was thinking something along the lines of..
"Hmm..that doesn't look right...What in the world..is that.. HUMAN! RUN!"
He ran right outside of my comfort range, stopped, starred, then casually walked away.
I'm done for today due to some doctor appointments, but I will be back out next Saturday. My woods aren't looking too busy, are y'alls? I saw him and one other very distant deer in about 5 hours of being in my stand. I see more than that during the summer on a normal day.. Is the rut just very late or are my woods just behind on the times?

Re: 2013 Archery report 2013
I got this 10 point buck this morning at 9:00am.
It came in behind me and after some tense moments I got my crossbow into position. My 100 grain Muzzy found it's mark, dead center on the right front shoulder and a complete pass thru did the job perfectly.
This is the first time I've ever 'doubled up' and gotten a buck and doe in the same season. Very very happy...
- 35 yard shot
- 50 yard recovery down into a damn steep ravine with thick thorns everywhere.
- 2 hour drag time (it was a bitch!)
If gun control worked, Chicago would be like Mayberry, instead of Thunderdome.
