He maybe went 40 yrds, wound up being a double lung shot. I would have seen him go down if it wasn't so thick. I thought he was an 8, but he had 7 and a little bump. This was my best deer with a bow. I got 1 more doe tag and I'm done. I think I'll save it for rifle season. This is the first year I tried mechanical broadheads and so far I'm impressed. They are every bit as good as fixed blades. I do think a Muzzy would have went straight through instead of hanging out the other side but you can't argue with dead in 40 yrds.
I switched to using Rage and I've yet to lose a deer. Congrats on a buck!

Any word on how the status of the rut? Is it here yet?

I havent been able to spend nearly as much time in the woods as a I have in the past, otherwise I would be able to answer that question myself.

For me and where I hunt the tut is about 3-4 out of 10. No deer responding to the grunts where I am at. They stop and listen but they don't come in

I heard the rut was coming in, but haven't yet had luck with grunts on scents. I am sure things will pick up in the next week or two, especially with the cold weather rolling back in. Oddly, I seem to have lost all deer traffic in the mornings where I hunt. The trail cam only reveals deer in the afternoons for some time now.

I looked in my back yard and saw a good size doe. Then coming out of the woods was a buck with his nose to the ground. I run outside to watch and he was chasing about 3-4 doe around in mine and my neighbors yard. Crashing through the woods. He was grunting at them and everything. It was great to watch. I just wish I can hunt my land.(only 1 acre)

Got my first ever deer yesterday, it was a button buck ( I was doing a community hunt at a local park so don't get all offended and say I should have let it go) but i'll still take it. Thought I missed him so I didnt climb down from my stand until 3.5 hrs later to retrieve my arrow. When I went to find the arrow I couldnt find it and instead I found a nice blood pool. There was only a 10 ft trail and then nothing. I went to get some help from one of the park rangers and on my way back to my stand I saw him in the creek. Heres where I found him.

That's awesome. Don't ever let anyone make you feel bad about shooting any deer. My son's first deer was a button buck and I wouldn't have been more excited if it was a ten pointer. If you think it's a trophy that's all that matters. Killing any deer with a bow is bad ass if you ask me.

I got my first deer with crossbow! I thought it was a doe at 25 yards but when I tracked it it turns out both antlers were broken at the base? None the less Wicked Ridge Invader with Spitfire Maxx broadheads did the job!

We need pics rules around here. No pics means it's a story with no validation. If there are no pics it didn't happen.
