Why refinish a pistol when it still looks new?

I was just looking over my primary carry and notice that after being inside my waistband nearly every day for at least two years it still looks pretty good. Its obviously not new but it isn't too roughed up either. My question is if I wait until the finish really shows signs of carry am I waiting too long for a good refinish job? I researched old threads but they all were about how guys coated their guns while they were practically new. My thought is to carry it until it gets rough then think about refinishing it. The pistol in reference btw is a Kahr PM9 ss.

Haha...my carry gun is the only one I have that doesn't look nice. It has a ton of park worn off the muzzle and parts of the slide and grip safety. I just keep giving it the 'character' CLP wipe down and it's good to go. It's really a matter of choice, but I like the looks of the 'worn' look. The gun shoots great (PT 1911 with a fair bit of tuning).

It is a carry gun. It is eventually going to show wear. Consider it a badge of honor for all of it's faithful service as opposed to a wear mark.

My CCW has bluing worn off near the muzzle and a couple of spots on the slide. I don't worry about it because to refinish it will just reset and the process will start again.

Like the above poster said, keep the gun wiped down and you shouldn't have any problems. For my CCW, I prefer Eezox. I have never seen even a freckle of rust on my guns since switching over to it...even the ones that ride around in a pocket holster during the hot and sweaty summer months.

My carry guns wear their scratches, dings, and loss of bluing as adding character to the firearm. The Delta that I have been carrying for well over 15 years has probably 60% of the bluing worn off; give her a wipe down of oil and she good to go for another 3,000 miles.

Why paint a brand new car a different color and add modifications? Because its yours and you can do what you want...

Ive refinished brand new pistols before (actually having one done as we speak), change of finish so it becomes "mine"

Holster wear on a gun is sexy. We've covered this before.

Refinishing a new or slightly used gun to change appearance is also ok and adds the "my" gun feeling.

I've have both but would never refinish my carry gun.

Your gun, do as you want..

I typically carry chrome or stainless guns so I don't have to worry about such things.
