Thumbs up Motorcycle Open Carry on 222 near Dorney Park

Was this anyone on here ?

Today while out for a ride on my Moto Guzzi Griso 8V.
On 222/Hamilton Blvd near Dorney Park heading out of town; I came up behind a fellow rider who was on a silver Honda. (If I recall correctly.)
While stopped at the red traffic light; it took me a few seconds to realize he was open carrying on his right hip.
As I passed him after the light turned green; I gave him the thumbs up.

As a hardcore motorcyclist. My primary form of transportation averaging over 30,000 miles per year.
I've often debated about open carrying on my motorcycle.
But I've wondered how the PD would treat me and I've wondered about the consequences of having a big hard object on my hip if I went down.
Plus I spend a lot of time in NJ; and wouldn't want to accidentally cross state line while carrying.

To whomever it was; fellow member or not; here's another thumbs up !

I always carry while riding, though it was not me you passed.

I have found with the right holster (Blackhawk Serpa) that I comfortably carry my XD40SC or my Glocks.

With a should rig I carry my 1911's (both full and compact).

    Keep the rubber side down.

It wasn't me that you passed.. But I do OC a 4" 1911 while riding my Yamaha R6. I OC and CC daily depending on where I am going, feeling, etc, but I find OCing on the bike to be much more comfortable and manageable. I don't always get the best looks, especially when the label of a 'young, dumb punk on a crotch rocket' is often the first though when seeing me...but then they see my Kimber riding strong side.

I often think about how terrible it would be to go down while OCing (Or CCing... or at all in that matter) but less time thinking about that and more time thinking about the correct style of riding to prevent it!

Ride and Carry on my friends!

    Just for the new folks:

You DO need a License to Carry Firearms (an LTCF) while carrying a handgun on a motorcycle, whether it's visible or not.

Open carry ON FOOT in most counties in Pa (other than Philly) doesn't require a license. Except in a school zone, where Federal law requires you to have a license from the state where the school sits.

Thanks for the info Gunlawyer, I was curious about that. Doesn't make much sense but the law is the law I guess. The reason I say that is ok when you get into a car and you are open carrying, then it is concealed, I get it. But nothing is concealed on a motorcycle.

Concealment has nothing to do with vehicular carry. You can physically split the text of the offense into two distinct parts, and it becomes clearer:

    "any person who

    - carries a firearm in any vehicle

    or

any person who carries a firearm concealed on or about his person"

I do the same, and it works terrific for me. However I do get some looks of pure terror that make me laugh!

Yep, it's just as Gunlawyer said. And carrying in ANY type of vehicle is considered CC and one must have a LTCF for this. Just like people can get dui's on tractors, bicycles and other means of transportation. Thy may not be cars, trucks or motorcycles; but they are still vehicles.
