    Default FNH FNS 9mm Review

I've had the FNS since last November of last year and have been putting a good bit of rounds through it to date and here's what I've found.

    Pros:
    -100% reliable thus far
-Comes with 3x 17 round magazines
-I like the night sights with the wide "u" notch rear
-It's more accurate than I am
    -Reasonably priced vs. its' competitors
    -Low bore axis
    -Cold hammer forged barrel
    -Standard 1913 rail
-Ambi mag release and slide lock
    -Great ergos
    -Forward and rear cocking serrations
    -Ease of maintenance
-Comes with interchangeable flat and arched backstraps
-Extractor doubles as a loaded chamber indicator like a Glock

    Cons:
-I think the trigger's a little heavy (breaks between 6-7 pounds)
-FN seems to have fixed the initial trigger locking issues but the gun took a hit to its' reputation when it was released from this for sure
-The standard model has an external safety. The LE restricted model doesn't. I'd like to see them offer both to everyone as many folks do not want an external safety.
-Aftermarket magazine availability is an issue compared to its' competitors

Here's a video with a little shooting, a demonstration of how to break the gun down, a size comparison with a G17/1911 for those unfamiliar with it, and a discussion of the features of the gun:

Nice video and review. A FN has been on my list for awhile now, but in .40 or .45.

Thank you. If they came out with a FNS 45 I'd probably pick one up.

I own an FNP 45 and I absolutely love shooting it. It's accurate, handles the recoil nicely, has a nice grip, and tons of capacity. The only issues I've had (and they aren't really a big deal) is the scarcity of spare mags and holsters.

If I could find a good holster at a decent price I'd be hard pressed to choose between my Sig and FN for IDPA.

Check eBay. I see alot of kydex makers selling on there. Also, a member here makes holsters.

This is my carry gun, very nice gun for sure. I think I have the pre-fix model where the trigger locks forward, but that is fixed with a little elbow grease when racking the slide. It takes a bit of force, but you can rack the slide with the trigger locked forward and it resets the trigger to normal.

I am unsure about the availability of mags for other guns, but I have found a few websites that have had mags in stock recently. (I have heard of availability being a problem though)

I have no complaints about the gun personally, I pretty much love everything about it, though I do wish my LGS had one in duo tone as opposed to all black.

    I love my FNS-40.

One thing I will add to the OP's list of characteristics is the "aggressive" grip texture. Some people like such a grip...others don't. I like it, but it's definitely something you notice about the gun.
