PA Lethal weasons training program?
Anyone here complete this course with the intentions of using it for your career. If so what type of job opportunity can be opened by having this other then an Armored car driver.
Thanks

Re: PA Lethal weasons training program?
Hello,
I have been Act 235 certified for over 6 years now. My intention at the time was to be certified so that I can work the armored car driver gig. After getting certified, I ended up working as an armed security officer for an amusement park for almost 2 years. This has opened the door for law enforcement work at my current employer.
There are opportunities out there, you just have to keep your eyes and ears open.

I have been LWTA certified for almost 20 years. I own and operate a Private Detective, Security Specialist and Bail Bond Agency, so it is a professional requirement.
It can lead to interesting work. Or, it can lead to doing some very mundane work. Like anything else, it depends on what other skill sets and drive one possesses determines what would be a good fit job wise. Someone that I send to protect a dignitary is going to make a much better rate than someone on an armored truck. The former has a higher skill set.
I think you will see an increase in armed protection work in the future.
Be safe (and be the former, if you can).

Re: PA Lethal weasons training program?
Most Security jobs in PA do not require ACT 235. Any armed job of course you need it for. However these jobs(Act 235) pay more and even unarmed jobs are easier to get if you have it, because it represents training, background checks and shows interest in your job.
I saw an on-line job ad last summer for a University in the Philly area that was starting people around $17 an hour. That's much better then the typical $10-12 an hour Security jobs you see and it had full benefits(including college tuition). However to even be considered they required an ACT 235 card, and they are not armed.
I think that's safer then an armoured car driver or guard/messenger. That is a very dangerous job.

Hodgie,
For your area, almost all of the private community security/public safety jobs require 235 cert.
Many start in the $10 to $12 area, and have benefits.

Re: PA Lethal weasons training program?
Thanks for the information guy's. I think I am defiantly going to enroll in the new year and get the certification. At the very least I will be better trained and also have something to fall back on if I ever find myself out of work.
